BJOOKS Beat Gems – Drum Machines in Modern Music

Beat Gems is a sweeping visual history of the drum machine, tracing how electronic rhythm instruments shaped six decades of modern music. Written by musician and electronic-instrument historian Oli Freke, it pairs striking photography with the stories behind the boxes — their circuits, their sounds, and the artists and engineers who turned them into culture. From the Roland TR-808, Linn LM-1 and Oberheim DMX to overlooked and unconventional machines, it is as inspiring for seasoned beatmakers as it is for newcomers — available at Soundium.
